Researchers discovered a long time ago that color could significantly impact how delicious or non-appetizing food is to a person. Seeing food can already cause all kinds of reactions in the body. The hypothalamus, a region of the forebrain, is mainly responsible for that. Neurons in the said region regulate appetite. The hypothalamus is the one that causes the glands in our mouth to begin increasing the production of saliva in preparation for eating once we see food.
Appetite Stimulant Colors
Red-colored foods are the most appealing food of all, and restaurants with red paint, menus, napkins, logos, and tablecloths are also more preferred compared to others. So, if you want to gain weight by eating a lot, you should probably spray-paint your walls red as the color can make you hungrier. You could top or garnish your food with something red too. You can add watermelon or strawberries in your dessert, perhaps add chopped tomatoes on your meal, or use more red peppers on your salads. If you want food to be more appetizing, you have to surround yourself with red, starting with your kitchen walls.
Yellow is another color known to increase one’s appetite. It’s linked to happiness, making you feel hungry. Painting a wall yellow, however, may not always be preferred because yellow is also a color that suggests energy, which means you might feel like you have to hurry up and finish eating. No wonder McDonald’s and other fast food restaurants paint their walls yellow; they want their customers to eat fast so the chairs and tables can accommodate new ones!
Orange, a combination of yellow and red, also has its own secret charm. Spray-painting your kitchen walls with vibrant orange can release feelings of hunger and comfort. It can also please the eyes.
Green, of course, is the color of health and nature. Although it may not be as appealing as the other three colors mentioned, the color green can actually increase the appetite too. It makes you want to eat healthier. Painting your walls green can make you want to eat healthy food only and avoid junk foods.
Appetite Suppressant Colors
Now let’s move on to the paint colors that make you feel you shouldn’t eat a lot.
Let’s begin with the color blue.
Blue is famous in this category, because, well, it would be weird to see blue food! I mean, imagine your pizza sauce blue instead of red or perhaps cheese to be literally blue. Spray-painting your walls blue will make you dislike the idea of eating. If you want to lose weight, you might want to surround yourself with blue. After all, only a few natural foods are blue. If you wish to avoid in-between meals, especially if they’re unnecessary, then you surround yourself blue. I suggest you even use a blue light bulb for your fridge.
Purple, gray, and black are colors that can decrease your appetite too. I mean, blackberries and eggplants are just a few of natural foods in these colors. Plus, the colors somehow feel a little dark. Kitchen walls that are painted with any of these colors make you want to avoid eating, which is great if you’re in a weight loss program.
